Texas Sand Fest from the eyes of a 10 year old

Brisk cool wind blowing rough bits of sand, big crowds, the warm
sun beating down, amazing sculptures and the smell of funnel
cake in the air. What could be better? Cruising through the warm sand on the golf cart just looking to find a parking spot in the crowd of thousands of people. There are very few parking spots left but finally we run into a spot big enough to squeeze the cart into.
We quickly get out and walk down to where the Sand Magic
happens. Touring the amateurs is cool, but touring the
professionals is awesome! We make our way through the amateur
sculptures and wait in line to purchase our tickets to get in to
the fenced off area where the professionals are, they have two
sections set up for the professionals. After receiving our tickets
we enter the first section.
As we walk through the sculptures it’s amazing to see what they
start with and what they end up with. They all are using very
interesting and different tools. Most have hats and scarfs to help
protect them from the sand blowing around them and the sun
beating down. They all start with a mound of sand and leave in
its place a work of art. Unbelievable! As we finish our terrific tour
we walk down the long line of vendors selling there many
treasures and go to grab a snack.
First stop the funnel cake stand. This is mom’s favorite anytime
we go to a fair or special event that has a stand selling funnel
cake it’s our first stop. We had to wait a long time so we decided
to take our shoes off and feel the warm sand on our feet. I dig
my feet in to the warm soft sand. After forever it seemed like, we
got up to the counter where we ordered an extremely expensive
but delicious funnel cake. We all shared it, but it wasn’t long
before it was gone. All of us agreed that it tasted amazing with
its warmth and sweetness.
Now a treat for my sister and me, the Icy shack! One raspberry
and one rootbeer please. Slurp, chew, and gulp! Delicious. Oh!
Don’t eat that Icy to fast or you will get brain freeze. Too late.
We walk back to the golf cart, load up and head to the hotel to
take hot steamy showers. I already miss the warm beach, but
can go knowing that we had the best day ever and can come
back tomorrow. There are two more days of Sand Fest, this is
the 15th year and one of the largest yet. They say thereare
over 150,000 people attending the Sand Fest this year. I can’t
wait till our next vacation.
